Tooth Extractions in Hialeah & Miami Gardens

Tooth Extractions in Hialeah & Miami Gardens

When a tooth cannot be saved, Cool Smilez provides gentle, efficient extractions to relieve pain and protect your oral health — with same-day appointments available.

We always try to save a natural tooth whenever possible. But sometimes — due to severe decay, infection, crowding, or trauma — extraction is the best option for your overall oral health. At Cool Smilez Family Dentistry, we perform both simple and surgical extractions with care and precision, and we will discuss tooth replacement options with you at the same visit.

Reasons for Tooth Extraction

  • Severe tooth decay that cannot be restored
  • Advanced gum disease causing loose teeth
  • Cracked tooth that cannot be repaired
  • Dental abscess or infection
  • Crowding before orthodontic treatment
  • Baby teeth that have not fallen out on their own
  • Impacted wisdom teeth

Simple vs. Surgical Extraction

A simple extraction is performed on a tooth that is visible above the gumline. We loosen the tooth with an instrument called an elevator and remove it with forceps. A surgical extraction is needed for teeth that are broken off at the gumline or impacted. We make a small incision in the gum to access the tooth.

After Your Extraction

We will give you detailed aftercare instructions. Key points: bite on gauze for 30-45 minutes, avoid smoking and straws for 48 hours (to prevent dry socket), eat soft foods for a few days, and take any prescribed medications as directed. Most patients recover fully within 1-2 weeks.

Tooth Replacement Options

After an extraction, we recommend replacing the missing tooth to prevent neighboring teeth from shifting. Options include dental implants, bridges, and partial dentures. We will discuss the best option for you at your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a tooth extraction hurt?
We use local anesthesia so you should not feel pain during the extraction. You may feel pressure. Some soreness after the anesthesia wears off is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relievers.
How long does recovery take?
Most patients feel back to normal within 3-5 days. Full healing of the socket takes about 1-2 weeks.
What is dry socket?
Dry socket occurs when the blood clot that forms after extraction is dislodged, exposing the bone. It is painful but treatable. Avoid smoking and straws after extraction to reduce the risk.
Do you accept Medicaid for extractions?
Yes. We accept Florida Medicaid at both our Hialeah and Miami Gardens locations.
