Bone Grafting for Dental Implants in Hialeah & Miami Gardens
Not enough bone for implants? Bone grafting rebuilds the jawbone so you can still get the permanent tooth replacement you deserve.
Dental implants require sufficient jawbone to anchor securely. When teeth are lost, the jawbone begins to shrink — a process called resorption. Patients who have been missing teeth for a long time, or who have had gum disease, may not have enough bone for implants without first having a bone graft. At Cool Smilez Family Dentistry, we offer bone grafting consultations at our Hialeah and Miami Gardens offices.
Types of Bone Grafts
- Socket preservation graft: Placed immediately after tooth extraction to preserve bone volume for a future implant
- Ridge augmentation: Rebuilds the width and height of the jawbone after significant bone loss
- Sinus lift: Adds bone to the upper jaw in the area of the back teeth, where the sinus cavity limits bone height
- Block graft: Used for larger areas of bone loss; bone block is taken from another area of the jaw
Where Does the Graft Material Come From?
Bone graft material can come from your own body (autograft — most effective), a human donor (allograft — most common), an animal source such as bovine bone (xenograft), or synthetic materials (alloplast). We will discuss the best option for your situation.
The Healing Process
Bone grafts typically take 3-6 months to heal before implants can be placed. During this time, the graft material is gradually replaced by your own bone. You may experience some swelling and discomfort for the first few days, which is manageable with prescribed medication.
Cost & Insurance
Bone grafting costs vary depending on the type and extent of the graft. Some dental insurance plans cover bone grafting when it is medically necessary. We accept Florida Medicaid and most major PPO dental insurance plans. We will verify your benefits before treatment.
