How Immediate Dentures Work

Before your extraction appointment, we take impressions of your mouth and send them to the dental laboratory. The laboratory fabricates your denture based on these impressions. On the day of your extractions, the denture is placed immediately after the teeth are removed. You leave the office with a full set of teeth.

Advantages of Immediate Dentures

• You never have to go without teeth — important for appearance and function
• The denture acts as a bandage, protecting the extraction sites and reducing bleeding
• You can maintain normal speech and eating ability during healing
• Easier to adjust to dentures when placed immediately

Important Considerations

Immediate dentures are a temporary solution. As your gums and bone heal and shrink over the following months, the denture will become loose and require relining or replacement. Most patients need a reline at 6-12 months and a new permanent denture at 12-18 months. This is normal and expected — it is the nature of the healing process.

Caring for Immediate Dentures

Do not remove the denture for the first 24 hours after placement — it is acting as a bandage. After 24 hours, remove and rinse gently. Follow all post-extraction instructions. Return for follow-up appointments as scheduled — we need to monitor healing and make adjustments.
