What Causes Wisdom Tooth Pain?

Wisdom tooth pain is most commonly caused by impaction (the tooth is stuck and cannot fully erupt), pericoronitis (infection of the gum tissue around a partially erupted wisdom tooth), or a cavity in the wisdom tooth. Each requires different treatment.

Treatment Options

Treatment depends on the cause and severity. Options include antibiotics and irrigation for pericoronitis, extraction of the wisdom tooth, or monitoring if the tooth is not causing immediate problems. We will take X-rays to evaluate the position of your wisdom teeth and recommend the best course of action.

Wisdom Tooth Extraction

If extraction is recommended, we perform simple and surgical extractions at our Hialeah and Miami Gardens offices. We use local anesthesia and offer sedation options for anxious patients. Most patients recover within 3-5 days.
